SOSEN’s stand on Rallies held by Advocate Groups.

By it’s very title we can see SOSEN’s reason for existing is because it is a sex offender solutions and educational network. We are a group of people who have come together to educate others on the facts about individuals who have been involved in a “sex crime” and are therefore on the sex offender registry. Our organization looks for solutions to help resolve issues that have been brought about because of the registry and the community notification laws. We want to stop the shaming and the collateral damage to offenders, their families and friends. We do this, because we feel it is an important issue that needs to be addressed.

We offer a secure forum for people who have been affected by the registry and by community notification to share information that our members have collected. We do this through our forums disseminating that collected information to other members and groups as much as possible. That information includes but is not limited to statistics and studies about the effectiveness of all the issues pertaining registry, news and articles, both pro and con, are discussed on the forums as well as ways to counter the misleading information. Case law and other legal information is also posted to help people in situations make informed decisions.

We have attempted to set the secure forums up in such a way so that people who have no other place to go may come and ask the hard questions pertaining to any issue about registry.  We provide a safe place to come and ask those same questions that other members who are, or have been, in similar situations may have already addressed those problems or concerns. We are a group of people that has decided for each of our individual reasons to be there for people who may not have any other place to go looking for honest help.

As an educational group we recognize that there are many different activists out there that choose many different paths to fight the registry and the community notification laws. Some look to reform the registry, others look to completely abolish it, and there are all types of viewpoints in between.

It is not for us to judge another advocacy group’s goals or actions. We have chosen to be the repository for information and the boot camp to help train new people involved in this issue. We arm them with the information that they need to survive and to fight against the registry in the way that they choose. We are here to help any and all groups to reach their goals.

We at SOSEN believe in these words, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” To attempt to deprive any citizen of those rights by any legislative body is in fact, political terrorism.

Because of our goals to educate people we will not take sides in squabbles between advocacy groups nor do we believe that advocate groups should lower themselves to harassment, threats, name-calling, or bullying of any other person, or or any other group, no matter where they stand for or against the registry. Those are the things that we are fighting against, not only for ourselves as registered citizens and family members, but as Americans and members of the human community that we all must live in.
