“Registered Citizen Apocalypse”

We now have an article that is a prophecy of what is to come. Tennessee, living up to its moniker of “The Volunteer State,” has bounded down the path of naming and shaming parenting done “wrong.” In a new law called Memesis Law, it has chosen to publish the Department of Children’s Services internal “indication” registry online, available to all who have internet access.

Other states have registries of those who have been convicted of child abuse or neglect, but Tennessee has now gone much further with a registry showing those who are potentially guilty of abuse or neglect lumped in with those who have actually been found guilty in a court of law.

Fellow Fault Lines contributors, Jeff Gamso and Ken Womble, in analyzing registries’ less than savory unintended consequences, have illustrated their great glories, provided one has a particular fondness for Kafka. But the overwhelming climate of fear surrounding children and parenting has reached new levels of ridiculousness in Tennessee. When the restrictions become to abrasive, and the ignorance becomes to absurd will we find ourselves in a Registered Citizen Apocalypse?

Registries are growing, not so much in numbers, but in the amount of crimes that have became register-able.

Before long most registrants will end up in fenced away segregation camp known as a “re-education site”. The government will put us out of sight and out of mind just like the Warsaw Ghetto where residents were promised the same constitutional rights as other citizens in front of the public, but were actually held under uninhabitable conditions.

If we as a country do not stand up against the injustice, this or some other restrictive systems will be implemented and by then it will be too late.

We’ve all heard the German version of this:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

And now in America

They came for Witch’s, but none said anything because they were Afraid to speak out.

They came for the Native Americans, but none said anything because they were Afraid to speak out.

They came for the Japanese Americans, but none said anything because they were Afraid to speak out.

They came for the felons, and none said anything because Afraid of being seen as soft on crime.

They came for the registrants (Sex offenders/white-collar crimes/child abuse/arsonists/……) And no none stood up for their rights out of fear.

They came for the gays, and after decades of fighting for their rights they have won some battles But the war rages on.

Now will you stand up For the rights of all disfavored groups, or find yourself all alone and banished too, When they come for your group.

History continues to repeat itself. We all have seen the extent a group of ignorant radicals will go to prove their imperialism, or eradicate a minority group that they feel threatened by.

What choice do we have then? Those of us who have been banished, along with our spouses our children our parents and our siblings. Perhaps like the pioneers who came to this country to get a fresh start. We need to band together as “New Age Pilgrims” and be proactive and succeed from the united states. Become a micro nation outside of the reach of the injustices of this government. Build ourselves with the abundant careers that surround the registry?  From farmers to construction works, scientists and beyond. The registry is built of many people who could build a nation themselves.  For those of us who have learned our lesson, and only seek a second chance to rebuild their lives. If we could band together in a common cause, I have no doubt we could create a better safer nation for ourselves and our children by simply going back to the original Constitution and Bill of Rights and including the information from the UN declaration of human rights.
